Relic Weapon Chain
Note: In my opinion, if you have not already completed a majority of the books for your Animus weapon, then it might be better to wait for the Heavensward expansion for the new relic quest line. The relic quest chain is a good way to spend your time though if you don't much else to do. However, you can grab an i110 weapon for 1.3k Allagan Tomestones of Soldiery, an Unidentified Allagan Tomestone, and a Sands of Time. You need ten Rowena’s Token (Soldiery) from Auriana and a UAT in exchange for a weathered weapon from Aelina. Then you can turn in the weathered weapon+the sands to Drake at Hyrstmill (30x, 20y in North Shroud) for the i110 weapon. Alternatively, you can farm Shiva Extreme for your weapon (i110) which can then be upgraded to i115 at Aelina with five Diamond Dusts.
UPDATE: The weekly from Mor Dhona for clearing CT,ST, and WoD can reward you with an Encrypted Tomestone which you can trade in for an i130 weapon if you also have a Carboncoat and 1.3k Poetics.
A Relic Reborn
So you just hit 50 and want a shiny new weapon? Well the first thing you have to do is finish all of your class/story quests up to “The Ultimate Weapon” and gain access to Amdapor Keep (AK). You can unlock AK by doing the sidequest “Ghosts of Amdapor”. You can pick up Ghosts of Amdapor from Nedrick Ironheart in Vesper Bay (12x, 14y in Western Thanalan). Nedrick should have also have another quest for you called “The Weaponsmith of Legend”. This quest will require you to talk to Rowena in Revenant’s Toll (21x, 5y in Mor Dhona). After that, you have to speak to Gerolt in Hyrstmill (30x, 20y in North Shroud).
Gerolt will have a new quest for you called “A Relic Reborn”.
Follow the steps in the quest:
i. Find your broken weapon.
ii. Buy/craft your base weapon and meld it with the correct Grade 3 materia (we have crafters who are able to meld this for you).
iii. Complete the Chimera trial.
iv. Complete Amdapor Keep.
v. Kill 24 mobs with the relic weapon.
vi. Complete Hydra trial.
vii. Complete Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan Hard Mode trials with the relic weapon.
viii. Get the item “Radz-at-Han Quenching Oil” from Auriana (22x, 6y in Mor Dhona) under the Other tab for 110 Soldiery.
Return to Gerolt. Congratulations! You now have your relic weapon.
Zenith
Buy 3 Thavnairian Mists (150 Soldiery each, 450 total) from Auriana under the Other tab. Go to Hyrstmill in North Shroud and exchange your relic weapon+the 3 Mists at the furnace near Drake.
Atma
This step used to be extremely painful but now it’s not so bad. You have to get 12 RNG drops (about a 12.5% drop rate) from different areas by grinding FATEs. It doesn’t matter what kind of FATE you do and you can still get Atmas from failed FATEs as well as getting bronze or silver participation. You can start this process by talking to Gerolt with your Zenith weapon equipped and picking up a quest called “Up in Arms”.
The areas and corresponding drops are:
• Central Shroud: Atma of the Maiden
• Southern Thanalan: Atma of the Scorpion
• Upper La Noscea: Atma of the Water-bearer
• East Shroud: Atma of the Goat
• Eastern Thanalan: Atma of the Bull
• Middle La Noscea: Atma of the Ram
• Western Thanalan: Atma of the Twins
• Outer La Noscea: Atma of the Lion
• Lower La Noscea: Atma of the Fish
• North Shroud: Atma of the Archer
• Central Thanalan: Atma of the Scales
• Western La Noscea: Atma of the Crab
You can view this list in-game by going to your Journal->Complete->Side Story Quests->Up in Arms under Zodiac Weapons. You must have your Zenith weapon equipped for the Atmas to drop. After you get all 12 Atmas, you can get your weapon from Jalzahn in North Shroud.
Animus
This part of the chain starts with the quest “Trials of the Braves” from Jalzahn. In this phase, you will need nine books for 500 Soldiery each from “G’jusana” (22x, 7y in Mor Dhona). You can do these in any order and when you complete a whole book, the stats will be automatically added to your weapon. The books have 4 parts to them: Enemies, FATEs, levequests, and dungeons. You have to complete one book before starting another. Be sure to have your Atma weapon equipped while you complete these tasks. You might have to do other levequests to get the one you need to pop up. Pay attention to whether it is a normal levequest or a Grand Company one. Once you have completed your books, talk to Jalzahn to finish your animus.
Novus
Grab the quest “Celestial Radiance” from Jalzahn. You will have to get three “Superior Enchanted Ink” from Auriana for 250 Soldiery each. You should receive a sphere scroll from Hubairtin (23x, 13y in Central Thanalan) for the quest “Star Light, Star Bright”. You will have to get 75 Alexandrite to complete your scroll. You can obtain Alexandrite by: trading in 200 Allied Seals (from hunts) at the Hunt Billmaster in your Grand Company, doing the daily quest called “Morbid Motivation” for a mysterious map, grinding FATEs, and by giving Auriana 400 Soldiery for a map. While you can solo these maps, I would advise you to bring a friend to be safe. Morbid Motivation is unlocked by completing the quest “One Man’s Trash” from Ealdwine in Hyrstmill. You need materia to infuse your scroll with; the required materia will go up in grades as well as decrease in success percentage as you upgrade. To determine which stats you should get on your Novus, you should do some research on your specified class. Once you have infused all 75 Alexandrite/materia into the scroll, speak to Jalzahn to get your Novus.
Note: You can put "placeholder" materia into your Novus if your funds are lacking. You can go back later and replace that materia with another that you want as long as you have Alexandrite for it.
Nexus
The starting quest for this phase is “Mmmmmm, Soulglazed Relics” from Jalzahn. You will receive an item called Zodiac Glass which you can use to check your progress during this step. You will have to farm 2000 points of light to complete your Nexus. You can follow this link for more information about light values: www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/2gm1ru/nexus_light_information/. EDIT: These light values in 2.5 are now double what they were before (for example, Bright gives you 8 points). You should always grind whatever the bonus trial is. Garuda HM is the quickest. These links will tell you what the current bonus is: www.reddit.com/live/tlfmtjl4fteo and xivparser.com/summary/index.php?id=jaOBigjcmXttIw. Each bonus window is two hours long. The bonus effect is active when you enter an instance rather than when you leave. When you obtain 2000 points, you can talk to Jalzahn to finish your Nexus.
Zodiac
Again, this step starts with Jalzahn giving you the quest “Wherefore Art Thou, Zodiac”. This quest in turn unlocks four subquests from different NPCs. This link will detail them: www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/2oqp5f/zodiac_weapons_the_final_grind_factsfaqhowto/. Once you have completed all four quests and receive the items, you will return to Hyrstmill and speak to Gerolt. You should now have your dyeable Zodiac weapon!
Zeta
The final stage of your relic weapon will begin with a quest from Jalzahn called "Rise and Shine". You will have 12 mahatmas that you will have to fully awaken by grinding light similar to the nexus step; even the bonus windows are the same. This one will not take as long though. It is pretty self-explanatory but here is more information if you need it: Zeta Info. Congratulations on finishing the relic weapon chain! Enjoy your new shiny weapon that is BiS for most classes until Heavensward!
